Soon after starting a veterinary position at the racetrack, I fell in love with a big grey horse. I loved watching his exercise rider walk him back to the barn from the track with a loose rein, allowing him to eat grass along the way. When his trainer informed me it was time to retire the un-raced 5-year-old colt, I happily took him home. He has given me the most thrilling rides including gallops and swimming at the beach. I even rode him in my wedding!

Every horse has the right to a good home, we need to help horses in transition find a good home. Adoption programs need to be diligent and use all the resources available to match suitable (right) horses with a potential owner. This will ensure the best long-term outcome for horse and rider/owner.
