Matty is a 12 year old OTTB that I rescued from a dear friend of mine, Christina Hannan. “Nina” as we like to call her is the owner/founder of Triple Dream Farm and Reins for Rescues.

When she first received Matty from an older lady who could no longer care for him, I knew he was going to be my favorite. His mild temperament and puppy dog personality were the first things I fell in love with. Nina gave me the opportunity to take him to his first show and we ended up with some blue ribbons! Shortly after, I decided I could not let him go. Since I was a senior in college, I worked with Nina on a payment plan to pay his adoption fee and before you knew it, he was mine!

Since adopting Matty four and a half years ago, we have traveled to many shows and learned so much together. He truly is my heart horse and has taught me more than I could ever teach him.

He’s the star of every themed photo shoot, was in my wedding, and blows out candles on his own personal birthday cake every year (on his actual foal date not January 1st!). He has taught beginners in lessons, jumped cross country with ease, and excels in the Hunter ring.

He’s an “in your lap” kind of horse that wants to be wherever his humans are. He’s honest and a leader when other horses are scared I can’t imagine what life would be like if I had not adopted him four and a half years ago as he has been my therapist, best friend, shoulder to cry on, and trusty steed. I feel like he has been with me forever.

The right horse to me means a horse that is the perfect match for its rider. One that you can really connect with and at the end of the day, teaches you something.
