Cynthia + Cherie

by | Dec 2017 | Story

Breed Quarter Horse/Thoroughbred

Age 10ish

Sex Mare

Color Palomino

Height 15hh

My #RightHorse was dropped off on my property so that I could foster her…and I failed. Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society of Texas sent their volunteer Denise (and her husband), to bring me my first foster as a volunteer for Bluebonnet. When they unloaded her, she was the cutest, sweetest, most full-of-life animal I had ever seen. She was like an excited, happy puppy. We all said our goodbyes and thank yous, and Diane and her husband left to go deliver another horse.

Within 10 minutes I made the phone call. I told Denise the horse could never leave my property, and I had to adopt her that day. Cherie has been through medical issues which left her blind in one eye, but never has it slowed her down. She has an attitude that has taught me so much about being positive no matter what. She is the horse that comes up to you even when you don’t have a feed bucket in your hand. She is always curious and playful. One time, I had a guy working on my fences and his ice chest was full of canned drinks. I warned him about Cherie, but I guess he didn’t believe me. She managed to remove every one from his chest and place them all over the pasture. Needless to say, he learned his lesson. This horse has brought me nothing but pure, 100 percent companionship as a true friend. For a $150 adoption fee …I have a million-dollar horse.

What #RightHorse means to me

Much as with people, our appearance should never be the judge of our hearts. Horses need us as much as we need them. God made their eyes so we could see into them with our own souls. When you look in their eyes, everything stops and gives you peace. Any organization that tries to create this type of relationship for someone is priceless.

Some days we just stand together, some days I groom him, others we go for walks or head to the arena and play. I tell him he is my favorite and how much I love him. He nudges me gently with his nose or will rest his head on mine.
